The 2017 street mile season is about to open, with a series of street miles available across the country. The street mile series usually opens with now famous Tembisa street mile, and 2017 will be no different. After the Tembisa street mile the focus moves to the holiday destinations in the Southern Cape with the hosting of the Eden Street Mile series.
Tembisa Street Mile
. The Tembisa street mile takes place on 29 October 2017, at Moses Molelekwa Arts Centre

The Tembisa street mile is hosted by Tembisa running club, and on race day a 10km road race and several street miles are available. This event is unique as the countries top runners assemble in the Tembisa township to compete.

The Bestmed Eden street mile series will then follow:
- 16 December: BESTMED KLEIN KAROO STREET MILE (Oudtshoorn): The first leg of the series is on the fastest course and is run along the historic Baron van Reede street in Oudtshoorn. It finishes in front of the CP Nel Museum, formerly Oudtshoorn Boys’ High and alma mater of South Africa’s first dream miler, De Villiers Lamprecht who was head boy of this school. - 18 December: BESTMED MADIBAZ STREET MILE (NMU George Campus): The scenic circular route on the NMU George Campus is very popular with spectators as they can watch the race unfold against the spectacular backdrop of the Outeniqua Mountains.
A cycling mile race will also be held at this race. Click here to view the route. - 20 December: BESTMED ATKV STREET MILE (Hartenbos): The Hartenbos mile has been run annually since 1983 and is the oldest street mile in South Africa and attracts the most runners and spectators. .The new route will be much more spectator friendly as spectators will be able to see the athletes twice. Prize-giving will be at the AMFI.
